Correctional Facility Identification (CFI)

Correctional Facility Identification

Correctional facility identification (CFI) enables you to identify correctional facilities addresses on your file for the purposes of suppression.

Suppressing correctional facilities ensures that your mail is not being delivered to a prisoner/inmate of any local, county, state, or federal correctional facility.

Where does the data come from?

The CFI incorporates data from the following sources:

  • State prisons: There are 1,566 state prisons in the US.
  • Local jails: There are 3,116 local jails in the US.
  • Juvenile correctional facilities: There are 1,323 juvenile correctional facilities in the US.

How often is the data updated?

The source data is updated on the first of each month.

How does it work?

When you process your file, you will automatically see the warning for the number of records found on your file that contain the following value:

  • correctional_facility = 1/0 (boolean 1=Yes,0=No)

What does it cost?

Based on the number of records in your file, the cost per file is as follows:

  1. Less than 1 million = $5
  2. More than 1 million = $10

You may also purchase an annual subscription to the service for $800.

How do I use it?

Remove all records that are not coded with correctional_facility=1.  This will ensure that you are not mailing to those addresses matched to the correctional facility list.

Is this available through the API?

Yes!  We have made this available through the API, see the updated documentation on the Correctional Facility Identification (CFI) here:  https://truencoa.com/api
