Suppress Mail Destined for Natural Disaster Areas, Post Office Closures, and Temporary Mail Delivery Suspensions
The Deliverability Suppression Service (DSS) helps reduce returned mail for pieces destined for natural disaster areas, post office closures, and temporary mail delivery suspensions.
The DSS provides suppression at the address, zip-code, and sectional center facility (SCF) levels, enabling you to proactively eliminate returned mail.
Where does the data come from?
The DSS incorporates the following sources into a single attribute:
- USPS early warning systems (EWS) notifications
- National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS)
- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Designated Areas
- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) Alerts
- Third-Party Alert Systems
How often is the data updated?
The source data is updated twice a day at 2AM and 2PM.
How does it work?
When you process your file, you will automatically see the warning for the number of records found on your file that contain the following codes:
- D=Deliverable
- U=Undeliverable due to N+T (See below)
- N=Undeliverable due to Natural disaster or other exception
- E=Undeliverable due to EWS
- T=Undeliverable due to Third party
- O=Out of service (typically PO Boxes at post office or entire post office closed)
What does it cost?
Based on the number of records in your file, the cost per file is as follows:
- Less than 1 million = $5
- More than 1 million = $10
You may also purchase an annual subscription to the service for $800.
How do I use it?
Either remove all records that are not coded with "D=Deliverable". This will ensure that you are only mailing to those addresses, zip codes, and SCFs that are not on any list.
Is this available through the API?
Yes! We have made this available through the API, see the updated documentation on the Deliverability Suppression Service (DSS) here: https://truencoa.com/api
